If you’re new to Hermiston, OR, you’ll certainly be interested in finding fun things to do in the city. Luckily, the area offers many recreational opportunities for people of any age.

The Annual “I Love My City” Event

Volunteering is a great way to spend free time. You get to improve the lives of others while having fun. In our city, every May aspiring volunteers can help clean up trails, parks, and the downtown area.

The “I Love My City” event happens thanks to local churches. As spring approaches, ask for information from the ZEAL Church or New Hope Church if you’d like to participate.

The Green Areas

Our city has 13 parks and 15 landscape areas for a total of over 100 acres. So, there are plenty of green spaces where you can unwind, do physical activitiesand spend time with the family.

Take a walk along the trails of Belt Park or Riverfront Park or have a picnic under the nice shelter at McKenzie Park. The Butte Spray Park offers a large concrete splash pad for both kids and adults.

The Funland Playground

If you have kids, they’ll love the Funland Playground. It features three themed areas: Wild West, Adventure, and Farmland. There is a pirate ship where you can fight against a dangerous Kraken monster. You can also ride a wagon train or take selfies with the 6-foot watermelon slice.

The park is run thanks to donations from citizens and local businesses. It’s equipped with a recently-refurbished picnic shelter and restrooms. Many activities are suitable for children with disabilities.

The Restaurants

We have hands down some of the best restaurants in Oregon! When visiting our city, you can enjoy different cuisines without breaking the bank. For example, Lawan’s Thai Garden offers exotic food at a moderate price point.

Fortune Garden is a Chinese restaurant with great prices, while Dairy Queen offers delicious ice cream. If you crave Mexican food, head to Ixtapa Family Restaurant, which also offers vegetarian dishes. If you’re up for pizza, make sure you visit Ye Olde Pizza Shoppe.

The Golf Courses

If you like putting, you’ll be happy to learn that our area has many golf courses. In the nearby city of Umatilla, along the Columbia River, you’ll find the Kik’s Golf Center and the Big River Golf Course.

Kik’s Golf Center works all year round and has practice areas for both adults and kids. You can attend golf lessons and purchase your equipment right at the facility. The Big River Golf Course features 9 golf holes in a picturesque green area. Right on the golf course, The Tavern offers bistro-style dishes like steaks, seafood, and salads.
